An Introduction to Piaget's Theory

This quiz focuses on the introduction to Piaget's theory provided in Hank Green's video. There is also some general revision on the first two stages of Piaget's theory.

Essential Definitions

 

a : the mental action or process of acquiring  

 

b  : the study of all the social, physical, emotional and cognitive changes that take place in the course of a human life

 

c : the genetically determined process of growth and progression that underlies all development and ensures, for example, that we roll over, crawl, walk and run in that precise order; these changes are orderly, and sequential; they are relatively by experience

 

d : progression of mental abilities in the course of one's life (thought by Piaget to occur in four stages between birth and the age of 16)

 

e : mental framework that helps us to interpret information, for example, "bird = animal with wings that flies" (We continually refine these mental constructions until we are able to be more precise and exact in applying them.)

 

f : one of the adaptation processes that we apply in order to adjust to our environment; interpreting new information in terms of the schemas or concepts that we already have

 

g : adjusting or changing an existing schema in order to fit new information into it
