Thomas: My Story - Part 2

Thomas: My Philosophy of Life

In the text below, you need to select the correct past tense verb for each space by listening to the audio.

When I to Australia, it changed my life for ever. Coming here was very tough for me, because I to leave my friends and my family behind in China. When my father and I first came here, we hardly any English at all. The only words we knew were: hello, good and thank you.

When I going to school, it was very scary to stand in front of the class. The teacher : “OK, what is your name?” I had no idea what she was talking about. Then a boy up and translated for me. He my first friend in Australia.

Two months later, I moved to the Blackburn Language School. I a lot of friends there and had a lot of fun. After six months there, I to Laburnum Primary School. Two years later I came to Box Hill High.

Fight back if someone is bullying you.

This is the first part of my philosophy of life. Fighting back doesn’t mean punching a bully; it means telling your parents or a teacher. When I at my primary school, I only one friend. That “friend” of mine was actually a bully and I understand why. I mean, I was a nice guy then as I am now!

The first few days at that school fine, but then this bully to bother me. He started throwing sand at me when I was playing with my new friends. The sand in my eyes. When the teacher came, the bully started to act as though he was completely innocent. I at the time: “One day, this boy ought to study drama!”

After school this bully up to me and grabbed me. He me: “If you go home and tell your father, I will make your day become even worse than this.” I home and my father everything that had happened. We stopped any contact with this bully and this made him stop bullying me.

Follow what you like to do and don’t stop.

This is a famous quotation from the works of Confucius. I love this quotation because it means that it is important to do what you love to do.

I like sketching. When I was drawing something at my primary school, that so-called “friend” of mine my drawing and it to my teacher. He on me, saying: “Miss, Thomas this in class.”

The teacher called my father and I crushed. At that time, I explain to the teacher what had happened, because my English was not yet good enough.

All the same, I to sketch. This incident me work harder and harder.

Do what you like as your job so that you don’t have to work for the rest of your life.

This is another quotation from Confucius. It is important to do what you love.

This explains why I would like to become an artist when I grow up.
